Deep-dive review of an aluminium smelter’s compliance with group safety standards
A large aluminium smelting operation required an independent assessment of compliance with Group Safety Standards, with a particular focus on the effectiveness of critical risk controls in a high-energy industrial environment.
Bluestone HSE was engaged to undertake a detailed review of the site’s critical risk management program, including a deep dive into three priority Group Safety Standards. This involved multiple days on site, interviews with the Senior Leadership Team, facilitated focus groups with leaders and frontline supervisors, inspections of all major work areas, and direct engagement with frontline workers to understand how controls were applied in practice.
The review culminated in a comprehensive report highlighting gaps, systemic weaknesses, and practical opportunities for improvement. A key feature of the engagement was acting as an independent and credible voice for frontline supervisors and workers, surfacing deep-seated issues that were not always visible through formal reporting channels. Findings were delivered in an open and transparent manner, supporting constructive dialogue and informed decision-making at both site and leadership levels.
